David Pickup says conversion therapy was so effective in overcoming his “homoerotic attractions” that he himself is now a Glendale-based practitioner trying to help others change their sexual orientation from homosexual to heterosexual.

 “Like most guys who deal with these issues, I’m still on my journey. I was depressed years and years ago, clinically depressed and I’m not anymore,” says Pickup.

A plan to ban a so-called conversion therapy that aims to make gay people straight has moved one step closer to a full vote by the State Senate.

The patient-protection plan presented by State Sen. Ted W. Lieu, whose district includes Manhattan Beach, was approved by a policy committee last week.

LOS ANGELES -- A student group says a dozen California State University students have ended their hunger strike to protest fee hikes and administrator raises after 10 days.  A spokesperson for Students for Quality Education says students who ended their fast were cheered by State Senator Ted Lieu's call for Chancellor Charles Reed's resignation.
