SACRAMENTO – The California Coastal Conservancy will now be able to unequivocally plan and fight climate change thanks to a Sen. Ted W. Lieu bill signed into law today by Gov. Jerry Brown.

The state Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee on Tuesday approved a measure that would authorize the California Coastal Conservancy to fund and undertake projects aimed at addressing climate change.

Nonstate funds would cover the costs Senate Bill 1066, which was introduced in February by state Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Redondo Beach.

The state Coastal Conservancy has worked with public and private groups to protect coastal resources and habitats.

SACRAMENTO – In its first policy review, a plan by Sen. Ted W. Lieu of Torrance to help ensure the California Coastal Conservancy can work on addressing climate change was approved today by the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee.

Recent studies by a variety of environmental organizations say that California’s coastlines are at risk in the future of flooding due to sea rise, which could worsen due to climate change.

And a bill by state Sen. Ted Lieu (D-Marina del Rey) would allow a state agency to continue to pursue its work on addressing the ecological phenomenon.
