Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed into law a bill by state Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Redondo Beach, that will extend by five years the fast approaching sunset date for a community college program meant to train students for specific jobs.

Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed into law a bill by state Sen. Ted Lieu , D-Redondo Beach, that will extend by five years the fast approaching sunset date for a community college program meant to train students for specific jobs.

Senate Bill 1402 extends the so-called Economic and Workforce Development Program, which trains community college students for jobs in sectors such as transportation, biotechnology, environmental technologies and health care.

SACRAMENTO – Gov. Jerry Brown today signed into law a Sen. Ted W. Lieu bill that significantly enhances California’s economic growth and global competitiveness. 

SB 1402 improves and extends the Economic and Workforce Development Program through the community college system, and more than $22.9 million was appropriated for this program in the 2012-13 state budget.

SACRAMENTO – In separate morning and afternoon hearings, two job-improvement bills pushed by Sen. Ted W. Lieu today on bipartisan votes cleared policy reviews and are a step closer to votes on the Assembly floor.
