SANTA MONICA MIRROR: Senator Lieu To Host Santa Monica Airport Public Hearing On Wednesday Night

Supporters of cleaner, safer air, and reduced pollution around Santa Monica Airport will review local, regional, and federal air studies during a public hearing in Santa Monica by Sen. Ted W. Lieu this Wednesday, Nov. 30, beginning at 6 p.m.
Sen. Lieu, chair of the Senate Select Committee on Air Quality, will be joined by several pollution experts plus Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, whose district includes Santa Monica and the west side of Los Angeles.
Other speakers will include Dr. Phil Fine of the SCAQMD, who will review air pollution basics; Dr. John Froines of UCLA’s School of Public Health, who will outline how air pollution affects public health; and Dr. Shahram Yazdani of UCLA, who will make a presentation on health impacts.
In addition, witnesses Bill Piazza, Suzanne Paulson (via video), Dr. Jean Ospital of SCAQMD and Fine will review regional air pollution issues relating to Santa Monica Airport; and Dr. Kim Hoang of USEPA.
Finally, witnesses Kathy Levitt, Mindy Taylor-Ross and Dr. Laura Silagi of the Santa Monica Airport ad-hoc committee of the Venice Neighborhood Council; and Martin Rubin of Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution will review the airport’s impact on the community.
It will be held at the Felicia Mahood Multipurpose Senior Center Community Room, 11338 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles.
