TORRANCE DAILY BREEZE: Resolution would name PCH bridge for Jenny Oropeza

State Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, introduced a resolution today to name the Anaheim corridor bridge on Pacific Coast Highway after the late state Sen. Jenny Oropeza of Long Beach.

The bridge runs from Coil Street to the main entrance of the Tesoro refinery in Wilmington.

Lieu said in a statement that Oropeza, his predecessor, worked tirelessly for two years toward the completion of the $107 million project that added a third lane to hasten transportation of goods to and from the nation's busiest port complex.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - State lawmakers are set to consider a handful of food policy proposals that could shape what goods Californians keep in their pantries and what they know about what's on their plates.

California is no stranger to major food policy measures, including a ban on foie gras that is set to go into effect later this year. But heightened interest in food issues, including the farm-to-table movement and demands for increased disclosure, are driving more proposed changes.

Hermosa Beach’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade drew hundreds of spectators to Hermosa’s main drag on Saturday, after heavy wind and rain prompted a one-week delay.

The 18-year-old parade, which traveled Pier Avenue toward the ocean before turning south onto Hermosa Avenue, was rained out entirely in 2003, when police requested its cancellation for safety reasons.
