Consumer-protection measure would protect new health-care enrollees
SACRAMENTO – Health care consumers would have better protections against deceptive marketing of medical services under a measure announced today by Sen. Ted W. Lieu of Torrance.

“Millions of Californians will soon have access to affordable health care coverage, many for the first time in their lives,” Lieu said. “We know from past experiences, however, that dishonest people take advantage of the consumers’ lack of knowledge about new opportunities or enrollment criteria.”

SACRAMENTO – In response to widespread reports showing that medical patients are not always informed of expenses, Sen. Ted W. Lieu of Torrance today reintroduced legislation to require more disclosure about potential treatment costs.

“Too often California’s patients find themselves facing incredible hardships because of unexpected – and extremely high – medical expenses after routine medical procedures,” Lieu said about the need for Senate Bill 266.

Disturbing recent data shows record increases in violations

SACRAMENTO – New data shows record increases in the number of convicted sex offenders, gang members and other parolees who illegally cut off their ankle-mounted monitoring bracelets, bill author Sen. Ted W. Lieu of Torrance announced today. 

Release of the new data coincides with release of Senate Bill 57’s bill language, which makes it a felony to remove a GPS-ankle bracelet.
