Playa Vista Residents and Stakeholders Gather for Coffee with Senator Smallwood-Cuevas

Nearly 100 community members turned out at the Playa Vista Library today to meet Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas, a newly elected state senator who represents the diverse 28th Senate District of Los Angeles, including the Playa Vista community. Coined “Coffee with the Senator,” the event gave locals an opportunity to greet the senator as well as learn about constituent services.

While addressing the crowd, Senator Smallwood-Cuevas shared about her experience growing up with a single mother and later working as a journalist before becoming a community activist in the labor movement. She then discussed her first year in the State Legislature and her bill package that focused on better protecting working families to create a more equitable California.

During an interactive session, Senator Smallwood-Cuevas listened to different perspectives on issues that ranged from affordable housing to the environment. The event clearly reflected the Senator’s dedication to transparent and accessible governance.
