My Bills on Way to Governor!

Greetings Neighbor,

I’m excited to share that the State Legislature has passed five of my bills that are now headed to the Governor’s desk! This progressive bill package will help make a more equitable California by better protecting working families and residents from underserved communities across our state.

None of this progress would have been made possible without your support. Whether through your advocacy or your willingness to stay informed, you helped make a real difference. I want to take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude for your continued support and engagement as we work together to make meaningful progress for Californians.

Here’s the list of my bills that have been passed and are awaiting the Governor’s signature:

SB 1340 – Gives a voice to all Californians who encounter discrimination by empowering them to file complaints in their own cities, as the bill would give local municipalities the authority to adjudicate workplace discrimination cases in partnership with the California Civil Rights Department.

SB 1137 – Makes California the first state in the nation to recognize intersectionality in our civil rights laws by clarifying that discrimination is prohibited not only because of one protected trait, but any combination of two or more protected traits.

SB 1089 – Requires grocery stores and pharmacies to give advance notice about store closures and ensure that employees and surrounding communities have access to supportive information, such as employment resources, prescription transfers, and food supply sources.

SB 1067 – Creates an expedited licensure application process at healing arts boards – under the Department of Consumer Affairs – for healthcare providers who can demonstrate their intent to practice in a medically underserved area.

SB 792 – Will convert an unused EDD building in the Crenshaw corridor into worker training space and affordable housing.

Thanks again for your ongoing support. Let’s continue to build coalitions of care that help us all grow stronger communities – together!

Warm Regards,
