Senator Smallwood-Cuevas Releases Statement on the Governor’s Signing of SB 1484
Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas (D-Los Angeles) has released the following statement about the Governor’s signing of her bill SB 1484:
“I am gratified that today Governor Newsom signed my bill SB 1484 that protects California’s children by completely limiting the juvenile court’s jurisdiction in cases involving youth under age 12.
“SB 1340 is a common sense bill that clarifies children under age 12 must be protected from the negative impacts of justice system involvement – even in informal and expedited proceedings.”
Senator Lola Smallwood Cuevas represents the 28th Senate District, which includes the communities of South Los Angeles, Culver City, West Los Angeles, Century City and Downtown Los Angeles. Senator Smallwood-Cuevas spent more than two decades serving as a labor organizer, civil rights activist and community advocate before her election to the State Senate. She resides in the View Park community of South Los Angeles with her family.
