Sen. Smallwood-Cuevas to Host Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration Sunday, Sept. 28 to Honor Latino Culture, Contributions in South LA
What: In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas (D-Los Angeles) will host a community celebration in South Los Angeles this Sunday, September 28 to honor the cultural, civic and economic contributions of the Latino community.
The celebration will feature live performances, community resource booths, free food vendors, and presentations recognizing community leaders making a difference in the district. At a time when the Latino community is facing unprecedented challenges, such as ICE raids and the fear they evoke, the event offers a space of safety and belonging.
“I’m proud to host Hispanic Heritage Month in South LA that brings our community together to uplift the culture and contributions of our Latino neighbors,” said Senator Smallwood-Cuevas. “This celebration is an opportunity to honor their stories so we can build a community where everyone feels seen, valued and safe.”

More: The Office of Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas will host the “Hispanic Heritage Month Community Event” for a second consecutive year to unite local residents in celebration of the Latino families, workers and artists whose contributions strengthen the South Los Angeles community. This event is hosted in partnership with the Offices of LA County Supervisor Holly Mitchell and Assemblymember Sade Elhawary. Other event partners include the Los Angeles Unified School District, UMMA Health, and CANNDU Neighborhood Council.
