Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas (D-Los Angeles) has introduced SB 1067 to expedite license applications for healthcare workers who will practice or provide care to medically underserved communities in California. The bill, sponsored by the California Primary Care Association (CPCA) Advocates that works on behalf of the state’s community health centers, would ensure that those who intend to care for the most vulnerable areas are able to more quickly enter the workforce.




Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas (D-Los Angeles) today announced the introduction SB 1030, new legislation that would codify a successful model of “know your rights” outreach to workers at high risk of exploitation. Sponsored by the California Coalition for Worker Power (CCWP), the bill builds on the success of state-community partnerships that helped millions of workers learn about and use laws protecting their workplace rights and health and safety. The education program is the first line of defense for millions of workers against wage theft, retaliation, denial of sick days, and workplace hazards.




Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas (D-Los Angeles) on Friday presented the Los Angeles Black Worker Center with a $ 2.5 million check during a press conference at the organization’s South L.A. headquarters. Senator Smallwood-Cuevas allocated the monies through the state’s general funds to support the Black Worker Center’s expansion plans and efforts to advance economic justice for Black workers.

More than 100 essential workers and community supporters joined Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas during a rally today outside of a Los Angeles area Ralphs to urge Governor Gavin Newsom to sign SB 725 into law. Authored by Sen. Smallwood-Cuevas (D-Los Angeles), the bill would require a grocery establishment that conducts layoffs as a result of a merger or acquisition to provide workers with one-week displaced grocery worker allowance for every year of service.
