A group of state legislators representing the California Legislative Black Caucus today spoke at a press conference at the State Capitol to express their concern about the recent abrupt departures of a number of Black female Hollywood studio executives overseeing diversity, equity and inclusion departments.




Governor Gavin Newsom today signed SB 150, legislation that requires equity and quality jobs for multi-billion dollar federal infrastructure projects planned for California. Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas (D-Los Angeles), a joint author of the bill, led the effort to include equitable hiring programs in a package of infrastructure bills that will provide career-track job opportunities for California’s working families.




The State Legislature today passed Senate Bill 150 that requires equitable hiring for billions of dollars of federal infrastructure projects headed to California in the coming years. Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas (D-Los Angeles), who was a principle joint-author of SB 150, led the effort to include equity language in the package of infrastructure bills to create quality job opportunities for California’s workers from underserved communities.




Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas (D-Los Angeles) today joined workers, unions and labor groups at the State Capitol to rally in support of her bill, SB 497 – The Equal Pay and Anti-Retaliation Act – that protects workers who report labor violations from being fired, bullied or harassed. During the rally, Senator Smallwood-Cuevas called on state lawmakers to take action against retaliation: Employers’ use of fear and punishment to prevent workers from reporting labor violations.
